So, the networks have pretty much caved when it comes to providing free episodes online… TNT, NBC, ABC…they all provide streaming of full episodes. This is particularly useful to me on weeks like this when circumstances force me to prioritize, for better or for worse, taking care of business over watching The Office when it airs.

Some networks are true to the spirit of free online TV…They recognize that if they don’t provide their content, some charitable DVR owner will burn, rip and upload before the final credits roll. They’ve made their shows as much like DVD viewing as they can, and we love them for it.

Others (*cough* NBC* cough) have made the experience as unpleasant as possible. The episodes are poor quality, very choppy and grainy, peppered with commercials (*hint, defeats the point of not watching TV*) and generally induce crankiness where they should bring only delight and happiness.

I’m partial to TNT and, of course, my beloved Netflix. NBC can kiss my grits. I’ll show them..I’ll just wait until season 4 is out on DVD and buy it. *ahem*

My life in Tinytown continued all week, and it seems like they want me back for next week too, which is tres exciting. My interview with Booktacular Inc. went really well — should hear back from them on Tuesday…

All this Office Life has gotten me thinking about Office Movies…I guess you could think of them as Corporate Movies…..in no particular order…

1. Office Space
2. 9-to-5
3. Ghost (C’mon, that banking office is pivotal
4. Fight Club
5. Glengarry Glen Ross
6. The Boiler Room
7. Working Girl
8. Big
9. The Devil Wears Prada
10. Scrooged
11. Front Page

Episodes of both the British Office and the American Office can act as palate cleansers (or palate torturers, depending on how you look at it…)

I mean, there are all these movies that, you know, have offices in them without being about the office… Keeping the Faith, Love Actually, Down with Love, Mr. & Mrs. Smith… and I’m sure there are tons of law office movies I’m forgetting, as well as newspaper offices, magazine offices, civil servant offices…. And as always, if I haven’t seen them, I can’t judge them. Well, I can’t judge them and be memorable. Or remotely creditable. Plus I know that my more faithful readers will be sure to brainstorm over this long, Colonializing, Imperialist, Culture-appropriating Jerkface holiday weekend.

My plans? Cleaning the apartment I’ve hardly had time to be in over the past week, perhaps an epic ramble or two.

    Office movies
The Apartment is the best office movie, even though it mostly doesn’t take place in an office. And Executive Suite, though it’s executives rather than worker bees. And I just saw a terrific Preston Sturges movie with Dick Powell called Christmas in July that I had never even heard of, that takes place in an office.
